Sylvia V was born and raised in Vernon, BC and has travelled in Japan, Southeast Asia, New Zealand, Cuba and the West Indies. She teaches classes at the Vernon Community Arts Centre in photography, fibre arts and creative writing for youth.
She is self-taught in pinhole photography and has been experimenting with building, converting and retrofitting cameras for over 15 years. She has made more than 50 cameras and regularly works with about 15 which allow for different film sizes and image qualities.
Sylvia was taught to knit by her Gramma as a child, but when her love of all things woolly was reignited as an adult, she taught herself spinning, crochet and felting through trial and error. Sylvia is a self-described knitting freak and supports her yarn addiction by working at the Vernon Community Arts Centre. She can be found knitting at the Bean Scene on a regular basis.
