Amanda Nemeth grew up (sort of) in Williams Lake, BC, where she swam and blinked her pretty blue eyes at everyone who walked by. Her first career goal was to be a Bounty Hunter, which was followed by Lawyer, Intergalactic Princess, a short-lived goal of being a food designer, and finally Professional Business Woman. She attended UBC-O and OC in Kelowna and Vernon respectively, where she fell head-over-heels in love with letters (you know, like the alphabet). She graduated in Writing and Publishing as well as Arts, and is currently working as an Administrative Assistant at the Vernon Community Arts Centre, an Aquatic Fitness Instructor at the Vernon Recreational Centre, a freelance web and book designer and typographer, an intern at Greenboathouse Press and the Managing Editor of Other:___ Magazine.In her spare time (of which she has lots), Amanda likes to write poetry, read historical novels, watch Disney movies and paint her toe nails. Her writing style is both eclectic and disturbing. She finds writing a constructive and valuable way of engaging with her everyday surroundings and responding to events and experiences that spark her attention and challenge her ideas and beliefs. And, lest you get the idea she is all sparkly pink, she also has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do! She hopes that anyone taking her creative writing classes will become comfortable expressing themselves through poetry, and realize that writing shouldn’t be stuffy… it should be fun!
